CHAPTER 11

“You seem like you have something you want to ask me,” Petra said.

Max turned towards her. They’d been working in the cold for a few minutes now. Well, she had been working, he was patrolling, although there was basically no way anything could sneak up on them like this. He had a very clear view of the snowbound field they were working in.

He’d been turning over notions of how to approach her about this in his head ever since she’d gotten to work and the conversation had sort of just died off.

“I do,” he replied. “I don’t want to weird you out, though.”

“Well, you’ve proven reasonable and level-headed so far. If you believe you can ask your question and then receive an answer you don’t want to receive without issue, then I don’t mind being asked a strange or uncomfortable question.”

“That’s fair, and I do believe I can manage that. All right. I am interested in having sex with you. Are you interested in having sex with me?” he asked.

She stopped working for a moment, instead stayed crouched and motionless within the pod, which now lay on its back. He was worried he’d gone ahead and fucked up badly, as he was having a hard time reading her body language and he couldn’t see her face.

“How interested, would you say?” she replied finally, and her voice sounded... cautiously optimistic and somewhat amused.

“Deeply.”

She remained still for a moment longer, then turned to look at him. “Really?”

“Really. Why is that surprising?”

“I just... I didn’t think I was the kind of woman you would be deeply interested in.”

“Why?”

“Just... I guess because I don’t really have the, um... assets that the others do. Sierra is a firestorm of competence and boldness, and a statuesque vision of physicality. Lexi is just so beautiful and... buxom.”

He snorted. “Well, you aren’t wrong.”

“And I am none of those things.”

“You definitely qualify as ‘so beautiful’.”

“I... do not,” she murmured, going back to work on the pod. “I am very... small. In all ways. I’m short, I’m trim, I’m petite. I’m not tall like Sierra or curvy like Lexi.”

“There’s more to attraction than height and boobs.”

“I know that. I’m just... trying to figure this out. It’s what I do. I guess I thought for a fling you’d be looking for more... instant gratification. Unless you’re asking for more than a fling.” She waited. He didn’t say anything. She turned to look at him again. “Wait, so are you asking me to have sex or to be your girlfriend? Your second girlfriend, and third woman in your... household?”

“Well, uh…” Dammit, he could feel heat on his face. This is not how he’d expected it to go.

“You’re blushing,” she murmured, clearly amused.

He sighed. “Yeah, I am. I can’t help it. And right now, I’m asking for sex, with the distinct possibility of having you be more... involved.”

“You seem pretty sure about that for having only known me for two days,” she replied.

“Sierra and Lexi know you better, and they both like you a lot, so that helps.
